After having a brief search around online, I have found that the codes and conventions of a rock music video are:
-Lead singer is almost always the main focus
-The videos have a hidden/deeper meaning to them
-Follow a story or narrative to match the song/lyrics
-Break in the video for dialogue to match the narrative
-Instrumental breaks
-Dark, low lighting and often set at night.
